The course is aimed broadly at students interested in learning more about the decentralised governance experiences in Kerala. The major objectives of this programme are to: Introduce and analyze the concept and dimensions of decentralization and governance, To Understand and observe the history and legislations of decentralization in Kerala from pre-independence to the passage of the 73rd Amendment Act, to Comprehend and describe the constitutional and political framework of decentralization and Participatory Resource Mapping in Kerala, to Delineate and assess the performance of people’s planning programmes which facilitate decentralized governance in Kerala to Evaluate the performance of grassroots mobilisation in the decentralized governance of Kerala and to Interact with the different stakeholders in the local Government Institutions and review the performance of diverse activities.

It enables the student to develop a critical perspective on the major issues in international political economic order and make them explore the ways to address the issues confronted by the major economies of the world / international economic order from an IPE perspective.

- The focus of this course is to familiarize the changing nature and problems of post-colonial societies, their struggle in development and democracy in the era of post cold war and Neo-liberalism. The approach is an area-wise and not country basis.The course focuses on: Providing an overview of various theoretical approaches to the field of political development; it seeks to link theoretical and application issues of democracy and its challenges; it explores the various political crises faced by the countries in south like authoritarianism, role of military and failed states; it explores the role of religion, ethnicity and caste on the political system; by the end of this course, the students should be familiar with the major debates within the fields of political and economic development. This course will be taught by drawing examples from Third World Countries, especially specific, Nigeria, Brazil, Indonesia, India and Pakistan
