GENETICS
Aim
- To give a detailed and comprehensive knowledge on the various aspects genetics including Mendelian Genetics, bacterial genetics, population genetics and developmental genetics and its molecular aspects.
Course Objectives
- This course explains the principles of heredity and gives an overview on the classical genetics- Linkage & Crossing over and Gene Mapping.
- It also introduces to the world of Bacterial Genetics- Population Genetics and Developmental Genetics.
- It gives an idea about the variations occurring in chromosomes and their consequences and how these consequences can be dealt with.
Module Outcome
Module I
Student will be able to understand the principles of basic inheritance and its deviations. Student could know about chromosome karyotype and do pedigree analysis by his own.
Module II
This module deals with the crossing over and recombination of genes and gene mapping with recombination frequencies. The students will be able to understand different principles of hybridization.
Module III
Students will be able to understand bacterial genome and conjugation. This module also deals with principles of gene mapping
Module IV
This module deals with chromosomal changes. Students will also get to know about mutagens and mutations.
Module V
This module deals with population genetics: natural selection, Hardy-Weinberg Law. Students thoroughly understand mechanisms of evolution. This module also deals with molecular evolution and speciation.

This module deals with the concepts of developmental genetics. Students will be able to understand developmental genetics of Drosophila and genetics flower development
